Welcome to Quiltings By Kathy! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here…QbK_banner_50

A love of all things colorful and quilted is our common thread.   My favorite quilts are always the ones involving a variety of techniques and materials to add color and texture to their overall designs.  In most recent years I’ve allowed myself to delve into landscape quilting which has always captured my interest.  Many times I work from photos I’ve taken myself.

Working in the educational field, first as a teacher and later as an elementary principal, I was on the lookout for smaller projects that would feed my creative side while offering the thrill of completion within a small amount of time due to the demands of my professional life.  I felt I had found my artistic medium when I discovered  fabric postcards.  Fabric postcards require a minimum of both materials and time yet yield highly satisfying results.  I’ve participated in several group swaps on Facebook where I am swapping and meeting people internationally…Germany, Australia, UK, Canada, etc.  Receiving fabric postcards in the mail is a thrill…to view firsthand the materials available in other countries, learning of new materials and discovering new techniques.  Meeting people from around the world who shared my interests is sheer delight!

I was fortunate to retire a few years ago and finally allow myself the time to join a wonderful guild near my home called The Connecticut Piecemakers Quilt Guild.  I found myself surrounded by talent, skill and creativity.  The Show & Tell portion of the meetings always takes my breath away.  Renowned and professional speakers from far and near present at the meetings and teach new skills during workshops.  You can access the guild’s homepage at CtPiecemakers.org.

Based on what I’ve learned and experienced,  I design fabric postcard patterns for others to enjoy.  Recently I uploaded several of the patterns onto Craftsy for sale.  Many of the patterns include a “technique sheet” describing and explaining the technique or materials used in the pattern.  I hope you’ll have the time to view them and try something new…feed your creative side.    Come back often as I continue to upload new patterns each month.

I offer workshops for those of you who would like to learn new techniques and skills while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow quilters like yourself.  Click on the Workshop tab on the top bar of the blog for a list and description of the workshops I offer.   You can find several ways to contact me via the Contact Me tab on the top bar.

Recently I was fortunate to be invited to be interviewed on Wyse Talk, an interview which has since become available on Youtube.  You can become a part of the audience by clicking on this link…QuiltingsByKathy.
